Yoga Retreat in Prince Edward County, Ontario

Between April 28 - 30,  2012, I spent three wonderful days at a yoga retreat in Prince Edward County, Ontario. The setting was idyllic and far from the din of city life. There's a lot to be said for a pastoral lifestyle, that's for sure.

For the first time, I tried restorative and kundalini yoga styles, both of which I enjoyed immensely. They are very different from the Hatha and Ashtanga traditions with which I am familiar.

As part of the retreat, I enjoyed a bonfire with 14 other yoga practitioners. There was a cold arctic air sweeping off Lake Ontario, but plenty of blankets and warm woolies shielded us from the wind.  But we all come from hardy Canadian stock - a little cold never stopping us from enjoying the outdoors. The fireside chat was inspiring as stories from all walks of life were shared around the fire.

Although not particularly traditional for yoga retreats, the food at the resort was superb and included meat entrees not just vegetarian ones. A wine-tasting from a local winery was on offer.

Overall, the experience was great, and more so because it was not your typical yoga retreat.
